I’ve been playing with the GBS AFS Pro for a few weeks now, and honestly, it feels like a game-changer at the volley line. The first thing I noticed was how light it is — at just exactly 8 ounces (7.5 ounces with the grip removed), it makes quick exchanges at the net feel effortless; the workability of this paddle has no limit on skill level. I don’t get that heavy-arm fatigue I used to with bulkier paddles. However, the workability of this paddle is not free. At 8.5mm thick its beyond extremely thin. Frankly, it is the thinnest paddle i can find, and at my skill level I need extra weight to balance the lack of mass for harder drives and better more consistent serves. In golf terms, this the BLADE of paddles, something only a pro would touch right off the shelf. In summary it needs added weight depending on your needs, swing speed, swing mechanics, and skill level.
While it needs a little TLC and personalization, its truly the little things that count. The dual-surface design is what really sets it apart. On softer shots, the carbon fiber face on top of the titanium face gives me unrivaled touch and control — my dinks and drop shots feel more precise than ever nothing less than exceptional. But when I step into a drive or smash, the titanium-aluminum honey-comb panel kicks in, and unfortunately at 8.5mm of ultra light weight HARD material you dont get the ‘’pop’’ you get with carbon fiber face and lighter less dense, less airy material. the sacrifice in weight does not help your baseline game. But, Every good thing in life requires sacrifice and this paddle is no exception
Spin has been another pleasant surprise. The textured surface grips the ball well, so I can add topspin on serves and roll volleys without much extra effort. I find no problems controlling spin and fast counterattacks, placing the ball wherever i want with easy.
That said, it did take me a few sessions to get used to switching between finesse and power. At first, I’d under hit some drops because the paddle accelerated so quickly with less power resulting in more spin and drop without the power behind it. Once I adjusted, though, I felt like I had more control over my game than before.
If your a paddle collector, like options, or just want something unique. Or at a high level and not ‘’attached to the commercially driven meta’’ this is a must try paddle. At a price point of around 50$ you should have it your kit.
I’ve played with this paddle for a month. It is beyond my expectations. The grip is very nice and comfortable, and the ball comes off the face quickly. This paddle offers excellent control. It is well-constructed and durable. I am very happy with the paddle since it has definitely improved my game.
Amazing. Very well made A much better paddle than I need but its comfortable to use with a good grip and nice hitting surface.
This paddle has a good overall quality look and feel to it, the paddle is super lightweight, almost to lightweight for my liking, but a few strips lead tape helped that issue, the paddle has really good power to it, the face of the paddle has a high-end grit to it, so you can easily put a good spin on the ball and easily control your return shot, one thing g i really like with this paddle is the handle, the handle is a good length and has a nice circumference to it, so I found the handle very easy to grip and I also noticed that there is hardly any wrist vibration at all when sticking the ball, the paddle came in a nice giftable package too, all in all I am happy with the overall quality and performance of this paddle, good value for the price in my opinion
Really good paddle
Really light and made from carbon fiber
